Holiday Season are the days where you would agree to cheat a bit on various aspects, from eating too much junk to being awake all night partying, neglecting our skincare routine, and usually, we check on all of the above. Our skin shows immediately when any part of our body is dysfunctioning, from too much junk food to too much stress, all and everything.
Your face is (usually) the first thing people see and the last thing they forget. Because we all know looking good just doesn’t magically happen overnight. Hence, let’s dive straight into how we can start our Skincare Routine and give the love it deserves
Splash your face gently in the morning and night and take your favourite cleanser to rub a pea-size – amount between clean palms. Massage facewash all over your face using gentle pressure and work through all sides and corners. Rinse your hands and massage your face with water to rinse your face until the cleanser and grime have been removed. With a soft towel, gently pat your face dry.
Apply after your face is cleansed and before anything else. Gently wipe over your face and spill a few drops of toner onto your palms or a cotton pad. Use only at night if your toner is exfoliating, meaning it eliminates dead skin cells with ingredients like glycolic acid. Wherein, hydrating formulations can be used in both AM & PM routines.
Morning is a perfect time to use a serum with antioxidants because they protect the skin from free radicals you will find during the day, like a brightening vitamin C serum. Night-time is a good time to use a hyaluronic acid moisturizing serum, which prevents the skin from drying out at night. Always remember: water-based serums should go beneath the moisturizer; after the moisturizer, oil-based serums should be added.
Your under-eye region should be frequently moisturized, use a specialized eye cream to layer it underneath the moisturizer, as eye creams appear to be thinner than face moisturizers. Try using an eye cream with a metal roller-ball applicator and storing it in the fridge to counteract puffiness in the morning.
Moisturizer hydrates both skin and locks all the products as a perfect fitting glove for the skin. For the morning, look for a lightweight lotion, preferably with SPF 30 or greater. A thicker night cream may be used in the night, before you head to bed, to allow it to heal while you sleep.
It may be the last step, but the most important part of any skin-care regimen. Protecting your skin from UV rays can prevent skin cancer and signs of aging. If your moisturizer doesn’t contain SPF, you still need to wear sunscreen. Look for broad-spectrum SPF, meaning that your sunscreen protects from both UVA and UVB radiation.
With these 6 step skincare regimen following religiously, you will be able to see not only visible changes but feel good as well. And, with welcoming 2021, let’s do a resolution together of giving love to our Skin, the largest organ of the body.
